Uses
Primary Use:
Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) Heartburn and acid-related dyspepsia Gastric and duodenal ulcers
Also Used For:
Hypersecretory conditions such as Zollinger–Ellison syndrome. Other acid-related gastrointestinal conditions when prescribed.
Who May Benefit:
Patients with diagnosed acid-related GI conditions requiring an H2 blocker.
Warnings & interactions
Warnings:
Dose adjustment may be necessary in patients with reduced kidney function. Seek medical evaluation for persistent symptoms, difficulty swallowing, vomiting blood, black stools, unexplained weight loss, or persistent vomiting. Possible side effects include headache, dizziness, constipation, diarrhea, nausea, and abdominal discomfort
Avoid If:
Known allergy to famotidine or related H2-receptor antagonists. Do not self-treat persistent or severe gastrointestinal symptoms without medical evaluation.
Interactions:
