Treatment of Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA)
Also Used For:
Psoriatic arthritis (off-label in some settings), other autoimmune arthritides
Who May Benefit:
Adults with active RA who need long-term immunosuppression or cannot tolerate methotrexate
Warnings & interactions
Warnings:
Hepatotoxicity risk, immunosuppression, teratogenicity, long half-life, risk of serious infections
Avoid If:
Pregnancy, severe liver disease, severe immunodeficiency, hypersensitivity to leflunomide, uncontrolled infections
Interactions:
Rifampicin – increases levels; Methotrexate – ↑ hepatotoxicity; Warfarin – altered INR; NSAIDs – additive toxicity risk; Alcohol – increased liver toxicity; Live vaccines – contraindicated; Cholestyramine – reduces drug levels (used for elimination)
