Primary Use:
Long-term control and prevention of asthma symptoms and COPD
Also Used For:
Prevention of asthma attacks and wheezing Reduction of chronic cough and breathlessness Maintenance treatment in moderate to severe asthma Long-term management of COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease)
Who May Benefit:
Patients with persistent asthma needing daily control People with frequent breathing difficulty or wheezing Individuals with COPD requiring maintenance therapy Patients who need both an anti-inflammatory + bronchodilator inhaler for stable breathing
Warnings & interactions
Warnings:
Not for sudden asthma attacks (use a rescue inhaler instead) May cause fast heartbeat, tremors, or nervousness Can increase risk of oral fungal infection (thrush) if mouth is not rinsed after use Long-term use may rarely affect bone strength or immunity (steroid effect) Use regularly; stopping suddenly may worsen symptoms
Avoid If:
You are allergic to budesonide or formoterol You have severe acute asthma attack (emergency condition) You have untreated or severe heart rhythm disorders You are using similar long-acting beta-agonist inhalers (duplication risk)
Interactions:
Other LABA inhalers (risk of overdose side effects like fast heartbeat) Strong beta-blockers (may reduce effect, e.g., propranolol) Diuretics (“water pills”) → may lower potassium levels Steroid medicines (oral/inhaled) → increased steroid side effects Some antifungals/antibiotics → may increase steroid exposure Heart rhythm medicines → may increase arrhythmia risk
