Uses

Primary Use:

Treatment of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus.

Also Used For:

May be used with insulin or other antidiabetic agents when glycemic control is inadequate.

Who May Benefit:

Patients uncontrolled on metformin alone, overweight diabetic patients, or those needing dual therapy.

Warnings & interactions

Warnings:

Monitor kidney and liver function. Risk of lactic acidosis (rare but serious). Monitor Vitamin B12 during long-term use

Avoid If:

Severe renal impairment (eGFR <30 mL/min), severe liver disease, metabolic acidosis, diabetic ketoacidosis, hypersensitivity to ingredients.

Interactions:

Insulin/Sulfonylureas: Increased risk of hypoglycemia. Alcohol: Increases risk of lactic acidosis. Iodinated contrast media: May worsen kidney function; temporary discontinuation may be needed. Corticosteroids: May increase blood glucose. ACE inhibitors: May enhance glucose-lowering effect. Diuretics: May affect renal function and glucose control.
