Uses

Primary Use:

Treatment of central diabetes insipidus and nocturnal enuresis.

Also Used For:

Nocturia in adults and some cases of bleeding disorders (e.g., von Willebrand disease) under supervision.

Who May Benefit:

Patients with excessive urination, night-time bedwetting, or diagnosed ADH deficiency.

Warnings & interactions

Warnings:

Risk of water retention and low sodium (hyponatremia). Fluid intake must be controlled.

Avoid If:

Hyponatremia, severe kidney disease, heart failure with fluid overload, or hypersensitivity to desmopressin.

Interactions:

NSAIDs, SSRIs, carbamazepine, tricyclic antidepressants, and diuretics may increase risk of water retention or sodium imbalance.
