Warnings & interactions
Warnings:
This medicine can cause serious liver injury. Seek urgent medical advice for yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine, severe abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, or unusual weakness. Ethambutol may affect vision; report blurred vision or changes in color perception promptly. Rifampicin can turn urine, tears, and sweat orange-red and can reduce the effectiveness of hormonal contraceptives.
Avoid If:
Do not start this medicine without a TB clinician’s prescription. Tell the clinician about liver disease, kidney disease, gout, vision problems, pregnancy, or previous reactions to TB medicines.
Interactions:
Rifampicin interacts with many medicines, including hormonal contraceptives, anticoagulants, some HIV medicines, and several seizure medicines. Isoniazid may interact with certain neurological medicines, while pyrazinamide can affect uric acid levels. A pharmacist or clinician should review all medicines and supplements.
