Warnings & interactions
Warnings:
Regular thyroid function tests are required to adjust the dose. Stop the medicine and seek urgent medical advice if you develop fever, sore throat, mouth ulcers, or unusual infections, as these can indicate agranulocytosis. Report yellowing of the skin/eyes, dark urine, or severe abdominal symptoms because liver injury can rarely occur. Do not change or stop the dose without medical advice.
Avoid If:
Previous serious reaction to carbimazole. Previous carbimazole-associated agranulocytosis or severe bone-marrow suppression. Severe liver dysfunction requires specialist assessment. Pregnancy requires careful medical supervision because treatment and dose may need adjustment.
Interactions:
Carbimazole can affect the response to warfarin and other anticoagulants as thyroid function changes. Other medicines affecting thyroid function or bone marrow may also require monitoring.
