Uses

Primary Use:

Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), peptic ulcer disease, acid-related disorders.

Also Used For:

Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, upper GI bleeding, erosive esophagitis, ICU stress ulcer prophylaxis, perioperative acid aspiration prevention.

Who May Benefit:

Patients with severe reflux, gastric/duodenal ulcers, critically ill patients, or those unable to swallow medications.

Warnings & interactions

Warnings:

Use cautiously in severe liver disease; prolonged use may be associated with vitamin B12 deficiency, hypomagnesemia, fractures, and Clostridioides difficile-associated diarrhea. Use under medical supervision.

Avoid If:

Known hypersensitivity to omeprazole, substituted benzimidazoles, or formulation components.

Interactions:

Clopidogrel: Reduced antiplatelet effect. Warfarin: Increased anticoagulant effect. Diazepam: Increased diazepam levels. Phenytoin: Increased phenytoin levels. Digoxin: Increased digoxin absorption. Ketoconazole/Itraconazole: Reduced absorption. Methotrexate: May increase methotrexate toxicity. Rifampicin: May reduce omeprazole effect.
