Uses
Primary Use:
Treatment of susceptible bacterial infections, including certain urinary and respiratory tract infections.
Also Used For:
Urinary tract infections Respiratory tract infections Certain gastrointestinal infections Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia treatment or prevention Some skin and soft-tissue infections

Warnings & interactions
Warnings:
Use only as prescribed and complete the prescribed course. Maintain adequate fluid intake unless fluid restriction has been advised. Stop and seek medical advice if severe rash, blistering, mouth ulcers, or skin peeling develops. Use cautiously in kidney or liver impairment. May increase sensitivity to sunlight.
Avoid If:
Allergy to sulfonamides, trimethoprim, or related medicines. Severe liver or kidney impairment without appropriate medical supervision. Significant folate-deficiency anemia. Concomitant use with dofetilide. Pregnancy, particularly near term, unless specifically prescribed by a physician.
Interactions:
Important interactions include warfarin, methotrexate, ACE inhibitors/ARBs, potassium-sparing diuretics, spironolactone, phenytoin, digoxin, and certain diabetes medicines. It can increase potassium and may alter blood levels/effects of some medicines.
