Primary Use:
Treatment of Parkinson's disease to improve movement and motor function.
Also Used For:
Management of Parkinsonism (symptoms such as tremor, rigidity, and slow movement). Treatment of certain cases of post-encephalitic Parkinsonism. Management of symptomatic Parkinsonism caused by neurological disorders, as directed by a physician

Warnings & interactions
Warnings:
May cause dizziness, drowsiness, or sudden sleep attacks; avoid driving or operating machinery until response is known. Can cause involuntary movements (dyskinesia) with long-term use. May lead to low blood pressure (orthostatic hypotension), especially when standing up quickly. Can cause confusion, hallucinations, or mood changes, especially in elderly patients. Do not stop abruptly without medical advice (risk of worsening symptoms or withdrawal effects). Regular monitoring is required for long-term therapy.
Avoid If:
Known hypersensitivity to levodopa or carbidopa. Current or recent use of non-selective MAO inhibitors (within last 14 days). History of narrow-angle glaucoma (unless advised by specialist). Severe psychiatric disorders with psychosis (use only under strict supervision). Suspected undiagnosed skin lesions or melanoma history (requires caution).
Interactions:
MAO inhibitors (risk of hypertensive crisis if non-selective types used). Antipsychotics (may reduce effectiveness of levodopa). Iron supplements (reduce absorption of levodopa). Antihypertensive drugs (additive hypotension risk). Phenytoin (may reduce therapeutic effect). Anticholinergic agents (may enhance side effects like confusion).
