Uses
Primary Use:
Treatment and prevention of Osteoporosis.
Also Used For:
Management of bone loss associated with menopause and certain cases of hypercalcemia related to malignancy.
Who May Benefit:
Postmenopausal women, elderly patients with low bone density, and those at high fracture risk.
Warnings & interactions
Warnings:
Can cause irritation of the esophagus. Take with a full glass of plain water on an empty stomach and remain upright for at least 60 minutes after taking it. Monitor calcium and vitamin D intake.
Avoid If:
Hypocalcemia, severe kidney impairment, inability to sit or stand upright for 60 minutes, esophageal abnormalities, or allergy to ibandronate.
Interactions:
Calcium supplements, iron supplements, antacids, magnesium-containing products, aluminum-containing products, and NSAIDs may interfere with absorption or increase side effects.
Common side effects
bladder pain cloudy or bloody urine chest pain cough producing mucus fever or chills, muscle pain
