Warnings & interactions
Warnings:
Paraxyl (paroxetine) should be taken only as prescribed and should not be stopped suddenly, as discontinuation symptoms can occur. It may cause drowsiness, dizziness, nausea, or sexual side effects. Antidepressants may increase suicidal thoughts or behavior in some children, adolescents, and young adults, particularly when starting treatment or changing the dose. Seek medical help for significant mood or behavior changes. Contact a doctor promptly for unusual bleeding, severe agitation, confusion, fever, or muscle rigidity.
Avoid If:
You are taking an MAO inhibitor (or have recently stopped one); dangerous interactions can occur. You have had a serious allergic reaction to paroxetine. Do not use during pregnancy without medical advice, as paroxetine can carry risks for the fetus/newborn.
Interactions:
MAO inhibitors and other serotonergic medicines can increase the risk of serotonin syndrome. Blood thinners/antiplatelet medicines and NSAIDs such as ibuprofen may increase bleeding risk. Some medicines can alter paroxetine levels or increase side effects. Tamoxifen: paroxetine can reduce its effectiveness and should generally be avoided when possible. Alcohol may worsen dizziness or drowsiness.
