Tacavir 0.5 mg, a drug containing the active ingredient entecavir, is an antiviral medication primarily used to treat chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection in adults and children over 2 years old. The medicine works by reducing the amount of the hepatitis B virus in the body and by protecting its proliferation. 

It helps to decrease the severity of the disease and its related complications, like liver cirrhosis or liver cancer. It is highly effective when it comes to treating hepatitis B widely used and recommended by doctors and is considered a life saving drug. It starts attacking the virus as soon as it enters the body.

  • Mostly the starting dose is 0.5 mg once daily.
  • Adults with prior antiviral therapy or with compensated cirrhosis are recommended the dose may be increased to 1 mg once daily.
  • Children and Adolescents 2 years of age and older and weighing at least 10 kg will have the dose based on body weight and ranges from 0.015 mg/kg to 0.030 mg/kg, 
  • Given once daily. it should not exceed a maximum daily dose of 1 mg.
  • It is highly reactive and responsive medicine.

  • As with all medications, Tacavir 0.5 mg can cause side effects. not everyone will experience them. Some common and less severe side effects are following:
  • Headache
  • Fatigue
  • Dizziness
  • Nausea
  • Less common butserious side effects can include:
  • Lactic acidosis is a serious metabolic condition where there's a buildup of lactic acid in the blood.
  • Liver complications include liver enlargement or fatty liver.
  • Severe allergic reactions with symptoms like rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, or trouble breathing.

It is a common side effect but not experienced by everyone. Consult your doctor immediately.

Q2: What to do if you miss the dose?

It is prescribed to take the dose at the same time every day if not more than 4 hours difference between the actual time you can consume the drug.
